Internal links are free rankings that get skipped when a post is due. This skill does the linking pass for you, with anchors that read like a person wrote them.

What it does

  • One descriptive link per related page, on its first natural mention
  • Returns the draft with links added, in the format you gave it
  • Flags pages that deserve a link but aren’t mentioned, with a sentence to add
  • Lists existing pages that should link back to the new one

Try asking

  • “Here’s my draft and my sitemap. Do an internal linking pass.”
  • “Which of these 40 blog posts should link to my new pricing page, and with what anchor?”

Install it

  1. Download the ZIP above.
  2. Claude.ai: open Settings, go to Capabilities and upload it under Skills.
  3. Claude Code: unzip it into ~/.claude/skills/ (all projects) or .claude/skills/ (one project).

The full instructions are below. It’s one Markdown file, so change anything you like.

# Internal linking pass

Suggest internal links that help the reader and pass relevance, then return the draft with them added.

## Inputs

- **The draft** (text, Markdown or HTML)
- **The site's pages:** a list of URLs with titles or keywords, a sitemap, or a site you can search. If you have none, ask for one. Don't invent URLs.
- **The draft's own URL**, if known, so it never links to itself

## Steps

1. Work out what the draft is about and which pages on the list are genuinely related.
2. For each related page, find the first natural mention in the draft. Prefer descriptive anchors (3–6 words) that say what the target page is about.
3. One link per target page. Skip targets with no natural mention rather than forcing one.
4. Spread links through the piece; don't stack three in one paragraph.
5. Note pages that deserve a link but have no mention, with a suggested sentence that would earn it.
6. Check the reverse: which existing pages should link *to* this draft once it's live?

## Output format

1. A table: anchor text, target URL, why it fits
2. The draft with links added in the same format it came in (Markdown links for Markdown, `<a>` for HTML)
3. "Worth a sentence": pages with no mention and a suggested line for each
4. "Link back from": 2–5 existing pages that should link to this one

## Rules

- Never use "click here" or a bare URL as anchor text.
- Don't change the draft's wording beyond what a link needs, and say so if you do.
- Exact-match anchors are fine occasionally; vary them across the site.
